Excavating Time: Uncovering and Recovering the Past in Word and Image
The 19th Annual Scottish Word and Image Group Conference, 'Excavating Time: Uncovering and Recovering the Past in Word and Image', will be held at the University of Dundee from Friday 6th - Sunday 8th July 2012.
Excavating Time will consider the processes by which the past might be accessed, preserved, represented, interpreted or 'fabricated' through distinctive interactions between visual and verbal media. It will feature keynote lectures by Professor Liliane Louvel (University of Poitiers), with a lecture entitled 'Hunting, Investigating and Excavating the Past: Effects of the Word/image Apparatus and Photography', and Nat Edwards (Robert Burns Birthplace Museum), whose lecture is entitled 'So Many Devils: Interpreting the Robert Burns Birthplace Collection'.
The talks will cover a wide range of subjects and materials, from photography to museums collections and art galleries, stone circles, Medieval and Pre-Raphaelite art and literature, to comics and graphic novels.
There will also be an exhibition, a tour of McManus Galleries, a civic reception and an optional walking tour of Dundee.
The conference programme and booking information is available now.
